TECHNICAL DESIGNER

Position Details

  • Part-Time Contract (1099)

  • Remote (North Carolina candidates encouraged but not required)

  • Typical workload of 30 hours per month (up to 60 hours during busy season)

  • Flexible schedule

  • Compensation: $35–45/hour DOE

  • Opportunity for expanded hours as Studio Lee grows

About the Role

The Technical Designer serves as a key production partner within the studio, helping move projects from design development to construction documentation.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges, organizing information, and creating clear documentation that supports builders, trades, and project execution.

You'll work behind the scenes to support active renovation, custom home, and new construction projects through technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and project coordination.

Responsibilities

Technical Documentation

  • Create selection schedules, finish schedules, lighting plans, elevations, tile layouts, and technical design documentation.

  • Assist with cabinetry elevations, floor plan markups, and builder-ready drawing packages.

  • Prepare organized documentation for design presentations, contractor coordination, and project execution.

Product Specifications & Research

  • Research products, materials, fixtures, finishes, and furnishings.

  • Gather specifications, dimensions, pricing, lead times, and manufacturer cut sheets.

  • Source alternate products when requested and support the development of final selection packages.

Selection & Project Administration

  • Enter and maintain project selections within Programa, BuilderTrend, JobTread, and other project management platforms as required.

  • Assist with specification management and construction-related documentation.

  • Support project organization and coordination across active projects.

Design Production Support

  • Assist with project development using Chief Architect, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar software.

  • Support the preparation of files and documentation for renderings, presentations, and builder communication.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of experience in residential interior design, kitchen and bath design, design-build, drafting, architectural design, or construction documentation.

  • Strong understanding of residential construction, materials, finishes, and product specifications.

  • Experience creating and managing product specifications, selection schedules, and construction-related documentation.

  • Ability to read and interpret floor plans, elevations, and construction drawings.

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Able to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong communication skills and follow-through.

Software Experience

Required

  • Chief Architect, AutoCAD, or similar drafting software.

  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Google Workspace.
